Instructor clinics

 

Instructor clinic modus operandi

 All the Instructor Clinics are conducted in two phases: 

 

Competent Crew and Day Skipper

 

Revision and Evaluation Clinic

The revision and evaluation clinic is hosted by one of the Association Sailing Schools with an Instructor Evaluator who is appointed by the ISPA board.

 

The clinic consists of consists of a 3 day classroom and on the water revision and evaluation of practical skills and knowledge of the Competent Crew, Day Skipper, and Coastal Navigation syllabus, emphasizing the Association standards and teaching methods.

 

The supervising IE appointed by the Association will evaluate candidates’ level of knowledge and practical ability, and only those who pass will be eligible to proceed to the Methods of Instruction Clinic.

 

The cost of the Revision and Evaluation clinic is $600 and the fee is paid direct to the host Association School 30 days prior to the start of the clinic.

 

Method of Instruction Clinic
  • This clinic is held at the revision clinic Association School by an appointed Instructor Evaluator.
  • This clinic session consists of a 2 day methods of instruction course including classroom instruction and practical on the water, and a final evaluation of skills and knowledge and final evaluation of instructional ability.

 

The cost of the Method of Instruction Clinic is $400 and the fee is paid directly to the host Association School 30 days prior to the start of the Clinic.

 

Coastal Skipper Advanced

 

Revision and Evaluation Clinic

The revision and evaluation clinic is hosted by one of the Association Sailing Schools with an Instructor Evaluator who is appointed by the ISPA board.

  • Consists of a 3 day classroom and afloat revision of knowledge and skills including; ISPA Competent Crew, Day Skipper, with emphasis on Coastal Navigation and Coastal Skipper standards and teaching methods.
  • Duration: Minimum 15 hours on the water over 3 days, including a minimum of 4 hours night navigation.
  • The supervising Instructor Evaluator appointed by the Association, will evaluate candidates, and only those who pass will be eligible to proceed to the Methods of Instruction Evaluation

 

The cost of the Revision and Evaluation clinic is $600 and the fee is paid direct to the host Association School 30 days prior to the start of the clinic.

 

Method of Instruction Clinic
  • This clinic is held at the revision clinic Association School by an appointed Instructor Evaluator.
  • This session consists of a one day final evaluation/confirmation of the instructional ability.
  • The student is required to teach a well organized classroom or practical lesson at Coastal Navigation and Coastal Skipper level.
  • The presentations will be evaluated by the Instructor Evaluator, who will make recommendations as to suitability for certification as an Instructor.

The cost of the Method of Instruction clinic is $200 and the fee is paid direct to the host Association School 30 days prior to the start of the clinic.

 

Note: For all instructor clinics, candidates failing either the Revision Clinic and Evaluation, or the Methods of Instruction Evaluation have a period of 6 months to repeat either of these parts at their own cost at another clinic. After 6 months have elapsed the candidate is required to re apply to ISPA.
