General Information
The Association plans sail and power Instructor Clinics, courses, and seminars to meet the needs of our members and schools, including: - basic and intermediate level Competent Crew/Day Skipper;
- advanced level Coastal Skipper;
- specialized courses for Yachtmaster Instructors; and,
- refresher seminars for existing Instructors wishing to update their knowledge of teaching standards and methods.
Instructors with experience and registered certifications as sail and power boat operators will have the opportunity to qualify as instructors in both disciplines if successful in cross-over courses. This will enable qualified Instructors to offer their services to cover a range of School requirements. Certification Requirements (All levels), Instructor Candidates: - Have completed the prerequisites;
- Are in possesion of the latest logbook and understands the use of the logbook for an instructor teaching and certifying students;
- Are aware of the requirements for registrering certified students with the Association;
- Can demonstrate proper methods of instruction for both shore-based and practical courses;
- Can demonstrate the knowledge and skills for the Association standards, up to and including the levels they are certified to teach, by completing and passing:
- Applicable written sail or power instructor examinations;
- Applicable practical sail or power boat operation test;
- Have signed the instructor code of ethics;
- Have provided the registration fee and annual membership fees;
- Have provided the cost of an instructor personalized seal;
- Have been evaluated and passed by a current Instructor Evaluator and is registered with the Association.
